Connaught Modular Update

Please find below a letter from CBE to our community. I do not have any additional information at this time.

Dear Families,

We wanted to update you on the timeline for installing the six modular units at your school.

The timeline we initially communicated to you this spring has been delayed. We previously estimated that the modular installation would be complete before winter break, but now expect the project to begin in early November and be completed by February 2025.

The foundations are expected to be installed in November, and the modular classrooms should arrive on-site in early December. Once complete, the six modulars will be on the southwest corner of the schoolyard. There will be some required landscape work, which must be completed during the spring or warmer weather. Construction fencing will remain in place until all landscape work is complete. Closer to February, once the modular installation is complete, the school will follow the call-back process to offer families, in order of the priority lists, an opportunity to return to Connaught School.

We will take measures to ensure the safety of students and community members who use the school site during construction. This includes measures such as keeping the construction area enclosed and working outside school hours when possible. Crews will work closely with school administration to ensure no work is being completed when students may be outdoors or when it impacts the school day.

We will send another update as we near construction. If you have any questions about this work, you may email accommodation@cbe.ab.ca.

Thank you,

Calgary Board of Education

Choir at Wildwood

Students in grades 4/5/6 will have the opportunity to join choir for the fall. Ms. Sayer will share forms and expectations with students in class next week. Choir will be held every Wednesday afterschool from 2:45-3:45pm beginning September 25th, until our January performance. Bus students are welcome, however there will be no bus home; families will be required to arrange a ride home for their child.

Our first performance will be at our school Remembrance Day service, and we are honoured to once again be performing at the Field of Crosses service. Please contact Ms. Sayer at nasayer@cbe.ab.ca

Dressing for the Weather

Calgary weather is unpredictable! Please ensure your child comes to school prepared every day to go outside - this includes outdoor shoes or boots, jacket, mitts, a toque, and socks. There are very few days we pivot to our inclement weather protocol. It is important and expected that all children go outside when it is in outdoor recess/lunch recess.

For more information regarding CBE inclement weather protocols:

If you need help providing your child/family with appropriate outdoor clothing, please email your child’s teacher.

Drop Off Areas

Student safety is EVERYONE’s responsibility. Please be mindful of our most used intersections - Wedgewood Dr and Spruce Dr, 45th ST and Spruce and 5 ave and 45th ST. Every year we have multiple ‘close calls’ and/or actual situations of a pedestrian being hit. Drive the speed limit, adhere to road rules and be aware. Take your time and consider all students.

If you are using the Wildwood Community Centre parking lot for drop off and pick up, be aware that children are crossing Spruce Drive in the crosswalk right there. We have already had several reports of ‘close calls’ in this area.

When dropping off and picking up students, please ensure that you are using the correct areas.

  • Do not park in front of the school, it is a designated School Bus zone.
  • Do not use this area as a drop off, it is a designated School Bus zone
  • Do not use the staff parking lot as a pick up and drop off area.

Healthy Hunger/Festive Foods

Welcome back to school and Festive Foods! As you received earlier this week, our Healthy Hunger monthly food orders are being arranged and the first one is with Subway and set to be delivered on Thursday, September 26th. Please ensure to get your child's Healthy Hunger profiles set up, and your orders in no later than Saturday September 21st. As we kick off the year, we are also looking for parent volunteers to help with delivery of these lunches to classrooms. If that is something that interests you please send an email to raj.deol86@gmail.com to be added to our parent volunteer list, and be sure to get your police clearance checks submitted by connecting with the office.
