Acting Principal

Dear Wildwood Families,

I wanted to thank you for welcoming me to the Wildwood School community for my brief, but meaningful time. As I transition back into retirement I will hold fond memories of the students, staff, and parents and wish you all a wonderful remainder of the school year.

April 24 | Maatoomsii’ Pookaiks

On April 24, there will be no school for students as staff participate in Maatoomsii’ Pookaiks (Children First), a professional learning day. As part of this, staff will be engaging in community visits to connect with families and learn more about the neighborhoods where our students live. Families are welcome to join us at Shaganappi Village Playground from 8:45–9:45 am or at Connaught School between 10:30–11:30pm for a casual visit with food and refreshments. We look forward to connecting with you!

Wildwood World Taste Test

The Government of Alberta is using federal funds from the National Food Program Agreement to enhance and expand school food programs across the province. Wildwood School has been allocated funds to participate in this program.

In relation to our School Development Plan’s Truth & Reconciliation, Diversity and Inclusion Actions focusing on providing opportunities for students to connect, learn and form friendships with those from different cultures, we are going to offer students snacks from every continent around the world once a week over the next few weeks. This is not only an excellent opportunity for them to be exposed to new flavours, snacks and ingredients, but it will also teach students appropriate behaviour and language as they express their reactions to these new foods.

Teachers will expand this learning across curricular outcomes in a variety of ways. This may include statistics trackers, food logs, creative writing reactions, scientific experiments on taste buds, social studies reflections about world cultures, art projects and more.

Jump Rope For Heart

Next week is our annual Jump Rope for Heart Event! Students will be practicing their skipping skills and learning about cardiovascular health all week. Our hope is to raise awareness and financial support for the Heart and Stroke Foundation - our fundraising goal is $1000. If you are able to donate, please scan the QR code on the postcard that students brought home, or visit the link here.
