Traffic Safety
There continue to be close calls of adults and children being struck by a vehicle while using the crosswalk. This is very concerning. We do not want anyone injured or a tragedy to occur.
It is not school staff responsibility to enforce traffic laws. It is the responsibility of drivers to follow traffic laws.
The following illegal actions need to stop:
- Using the bus lane in front of the school for pick up and drop off. It is designated a “No Stopping” zone and is reserved for buses. See below.
- Crossing the street anywhere but in the crosswalk. Do not send your kids running across the street
- Turning around (doing a u-turn) in the middle of the street
- Using the parking lot for drop off and pick up
- Parking within 1.5 metres of a crosswalk
- Parking behind staff in the parking lot
Drop off and Pick Up
The immediate area in front of the school is designated as a “No Stopping Zone”. This is noted through the below signs:
Parents are to drop off and pick up students in the shaded green areas as pictured below. Areas shaded red are not to be used as pick up or drop off areas.
The safety of students, staff and families is all of our responsibility. Simple decisions, taking time and being aware of those around you is critical to all of us staying safe.
There are multiple options to avoid the front of school. Children are welcomed by adults at doors for several minutes following the entry bell. Children are never reprimanded for being late.
If you have traffic concerns, please contact 311.
This is important, and we appreciate your cooperation.
