Wildwood Taste the World

The Government of Alberta is using federal funds from the National Food Program Agreement to enhance and expand school food programs across the province. This funding has come with a tight timeline. As Wildwood is the grateful recipient of other nutritional programs, we have decided to lean into Introduce students to new and varied foods.

In relation to our School Development Plan’s Truth & Reconciliation, Diversity and Inclusion Actions focusing on providing opportunities for students to connect, learn and form friendships with those from different cultures, we are going to offer students snacks from every continent around the world over the next few weeks. This is an excellent opportunity for them to be exposed to new flavours, snacks and ingredients. We will also be explicitly teaching students appropriate behaviour and language as they express their reactions to these new foods. Students will be in control of what they eat. All students will be offered all options, students will only try what they want to.

Teachers will expand this learning across curricular outcomes in a variety of ways. This may include statistics trackers, food logs, creative writing reactions, scientific experiments on taste buds, social studies reflections about world cultures, art projects and more.
