Week of Jan 15 | No school Jan 15, Cold Weather, Absences, Winter Celebration, Kindergarten Registration, Recorder, West Coast Seeds
Reminder | No Classes January 15
A friendly reminder that Monday January 15th is a Professional Learning Day and there will be no classes for students.
Cold Weather Continues
Winter has arrived! Please ensure you send your child to school with winter appropriate clothing. Here are some suggestions:
- Toque
- mitts/gloves
- Winter jacket
- Snow pants
- Boots
- scarf/face covering
Students are expected to go outside unless temperatures, with wind chill, exceed -20 degrees Celsius.
Reporting Absences | Phone Protocol
Please call the 24 hour, 7 day a week attendance line at 403 777 8430 and press “1” to leave a message as soon as you know your child will be late, or absent. Please spell your child’s name first and last name, reason for the absence and the teacher's name.
This assists the teachers and the admin team taking attendance for absences or lates in a timely and efficient manner and substitute staff do not have access to monitor this or the teacher’s emails in our absence.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Ms. Andii & Ms. Layale
Jan 25 | Div 2 Winter Celebration
Mark your calendars! Our grade 4, 5 and 6 Winter Celebration is almost here.
- Thursday January 25
- Doors open at 6:00 pm. We will not be letting families into the school prior to 6:00pm.
- We ask that all audience members for the evening performance are able to sit and stay quiet for the whole performance. We are unable to accommodate strollers at the evening performance. Toddlers (and strollers) are welcome at the dress rehearsal on Thursday morning (time TBD).
- Concert at 6:30 pm
Please expect more information closer to the performance date.
Kindergarten Registration
CBE Kindergarten registration begins on Monday, January 15th. It is really helpful for school planning and organization if children are registered by April 1st.
We will be hosting Welcome to Kindergarten on Thursday, May 16th at 6:00pm.

Music | Recorder Order
Students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 will be learning the recorder, beginning in February. Families are asked to purchase a recorder kit through your online CBE account, under FEES. Grade 6 students have used school recorders this year and do not need a recorder but are welcome to purchase if they choose.
- The deadline to order is January 31.
It is $10.00 for a high quality Handel recorder (german fingering), case and book which also has a download code for the audio to practice at home.
The recorders will come to the school where I will label them and teach some songs before they go home. At that point, students are asked to keep their book at home and their recorder will “live in their backpack”. Students will need their recorder for each music class until the unit is finished.
If you choose not to purchase a recorder kit, the school has a limited number of recorders that students can borrow for the unit, and will receive photocopied pages instead of book.
If you already have a quality recorder (please do not buy dollar store recorders), please send with the student so I can check it. If the fingering is the same it will work fine and those students will get a photocopied booklet of the songs we'll be learning.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
