Week of Jan 29 | Staffing, Reminders, School Council, Recorder

Thank you to our Division 2 families that attended our Winter Celebration last night. It was a joyful musical evening!

Staffing Updates

Congratulations to Ms. Kerry who has been appointed assistant principal at Sam Shaw Middle School. This is happy and sad news for Wildwood. We are grateful for all the ways Ms. Kerry has made Wildwood a better place. We are pleased that Ms. Abby will be taking over from her on February 5th. Ms. Hayley will continue to teach kindergarten in the mornings, and is being added to the Grade 6 teaching team in the afternoons.

We are pleased to welcome/continue Ms. Solai (education assistant, kinder and Div 1), Ms. Samina (education assistant, kinder and grade 1), Mr. Israel (behavior support worker, grade 3) and Ms Piet (behavior support worker, Grade 5 and 6) to the Wildwood Team. Most of these folks have been working with us since or prior to winter break. As needs shift in classrooms, support staff assignments shift.

Important School Reminders:

Student Cell Phone Policy

We understand that cell phones are part of many families' safety plan for their child. Cell phones should only be out in class if students have been specifically directed by the teacher to use them for learning. Some examples of this could be: translation access, playing a Kahoot etc. At all other times it is expected that cell phones are in student backpacks with no sound for the entirety of the day. If you have concerns about your child’s safety during the day, please contact Erica/Grant for a meeting. If you need to get a message to your child during the day, please call the office at: 403-777-8430.

Please note that the school is not responsible for any personal items, including cell phones and other technology, that are brought to school.

Dress Code

Students are expected to dress appropriately to engage in learning. Clothing with offensive words, slogans and/or pictures is inappropriate.

Students need to have a second pair of shoes at school. Indoor/outdoor footwear contributes greatly to the cleanliness of our school. When the weather dictates, children need to remove their shoes/boots and carry them to the classroom.

Students participate in daily physical education. Every student is expected to have a pair of dry, non-slip, and non-marking running shoes.

We also request that all adults that enter our building with wet shoes/boots, to please remove them to ensure our school is kept clean.

Student Code of Conduct | Progressive Discipline

Our CBE Student Code of Conduct and CBE Progressive Student Discipline regulation apply to all of our students. They outline the roles and expectations for our students to promote positive and inclusive learning environments, help students to develop empathy and become good citizens both within and outside of the school community, and explain the consequences when a student’s disruptive behavior negatively affects the learning environment.

News from School Council

West Coast Seeds Fundraiser

Wildwood School Council is excited to be participating in a West Coast Seeds fundraiser. West Coast Seeds, from BC, provide Canada No. 1 standard seeds that are untreated, non-GMO, and suitable for sustainable organic growing. Order over 700 varieties of vegetable, flower and herb seeds from the West Coast Seeds fundraising website. You will save on shipping costs as all of the seeds are sent to Wildwood School for delivery in early March.

With every order, 40% of the packet price is generously donated to Wildwood School Council. These funds contribute to visiting artist residencies like Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and Quickdraw Animation Society, supporting class Field Trips along with School Council Events like Kokomo Beach and Activity Day. All funds raised are used to support your child and their school!
